In the Collection of Acanthocardia tuberculata are located specimens from many different countries. The whole Collection counts on more than 700 samples; however, here it starts with specimens of 53+ mm and it ends up with giants of 70+ mm; it currently holds both world records (WRS - World Record Size Shell) for the biggest specimen and the biggest albino specimen, a former WRS, plus a large number of the biggest specimens known in the world. It's important to precise that only an exam of the mollusk's tissues can reveal if a specimen is a true albino. So here when you read the word "albino" is just referred to samples with a full "white shell" or a "white shell" that have few colored spots.

In the Bivalvia Class, just Pectens and very few other species can claim to match the wonderful colorful palette of the Acanthocardia tuberculata. Here you can look at these rare sea jewels in all their beauty of color shades.
